Electronic Mail (Ray Tomlinson)-1970 : Features and Structure of e-mail
E-mail is a method of sending message voice, video and graphics or digital communication link such as Internet. E-mail is a type of client server application that provides a rooted, stored message service between any two e-mail account.
Advantages of e-mail
Speed
A message can reach anywhere in the world to just few seconds.
Easy of use
It is easy to send an e-mail than normal postal system.
Multiple copies
We can send same message to multiple message users without retyping again and again.
Features of E-mail
Reply
We can reply to a message send to other. Reply include the original message.
Forward Message
You can forward to message which a received someone else.
Print Message
Message can be printed to make hard copy.
Delete Message
We can also delete unwanted message (e-mails). All delete mail stored in Trash for 30 days.
Structure of E-mail
Address Syntax
An e-mail address composed of two separate parts-
i) The Domain name of the mail server computer on which you have an e-mail account.
ii) Your personal identity or account name (user name) on the mail server.
e.g. john2564@gmail.com
where, john2564 is known as username
@ is known as at the rate
gmail.com is known as Domain name.

In e-mail address not possible special character and spaces because e-mail server will not accept special character in address.
Header
It is the upper most section. It display information regarding the status of the message . Headers are present in both incoming and outgoing mails.
The principal header fields are given below-
To
Address of primary receipts.
CC (Carbon Copy)
Address of secondary receipts whom copy needs to be sent.
BCC (Blind Carbon Copy)
Address of secondary receipt but primary receipt should not know about the dispatch of mail of these address.
From
The creator/originator of the e-mail.
Sender
E-mail address.
Body
The body of e-mail message is the primarily focus because it contain the actual message. There is no limit for number of character in a e-mail message.

Attachment
It is used for attach different file format such as word, spread sheet, images, audio, video etc. E-mail message cannot contain virus. For downloading and uploading e-mail attachment scanning process running.
Signature
Signature for e-mail message is the personal information which automatically appears at bottom of the outgoing message.
