What is Multimedia?
You are always enthusiastic to know the answers to various questions arising in your creative mind like what is nature, how does an earthquake take place, what is Universe, various facts of universe or how does bird hatches out etc. Finding out the answers from the books needs lot of time and is also monotonous at many times. One must have the idea of that particular book which has the information on the related topic and also the time to visit the library. This long process of finding out an answer is sometimes difficult. Hence to make learning simpler, exciting and interactive MULTIMEDIA is a solution.
Multimedia- A Revolution
Nowadays multimedia is being widely used in the process of learning. One of the best example of the use of multimedia is the Britannica Encyclopedia which provides you with the information on almost every topic you can think about with just a few mouse clicks.Multimedia is a computer controlled technology which is a combination of more than one medium. The term ‘media’ refers to various ways of communication.Earlier when we did not have phones we would communicate our ideas or send an information to the person far away from us with the help of letters. And the person (receiver) could only read the information, he/she could not listen to our voice nor could he/ she see the sender.With the existence of phones the receiver and the sender can listen to each other bout can not see and read the text.But now with the help of multimedia , gathering an information or conveying an idea has become so simple, convincing and interactive as it holds all the different ways of communication together with the help of a software.Multimedia is a package which is the combination of text, sound,graphics and animation.
This means that the information given by any multimedia package will have text written in it along with sound, picture and three-dimensional effects, if required . Multimedia is the outcome of sophisticated blending of both visual and audio communication.
On the basis of nature of interaction with the user, the multimedia packages can be of two types.
- Interactive multimedia packages.
- Non- interactive multimedia packages.
Interactive Multimedia
Such multimedia packages allow the user to be in direct communication with the computer, i.e. receiving immediate responses to the input data (questions asked to the computer) . This type of multimedia usage is more common nowadays.
Non-Interactive Multimedia
In this kind of multimedia packages we simply receive information presented to us which are prepared in advance and processed by the computer with little or no interaction from the user.
System Requirement
For using multimedia packages in the computer system , it must have the following hardware components in it.
- DVD-ROM Drive/ Pen drive
- Color Monitor
- Speakers
- Good microprocessor CPU
- Internet connection (if available)
Multimedia is a combination of text, video, animation , graphics/pictures, audio and video, Images. Multimedia is an advance technology representing digital form. It provides now way to enhance the delivery of information and its impact on the user.
Computer stores multimedia information in a variety of standard formats. We can display or play multimedia information on output devices.
1-Text-
Text is one of the most important part of multimedia because it help us to create mails, MMS. The design and multimedia content of the multimedia text are now different from other types of text.
e.g. newspaper, books etc.
2-Graphics-
Computer graphics are the image that generated by computer. It is an important component of multimedia. e.g. Photographs, line art, drawings, graphs etc.
3-Images-
It is also a type of multimedia. An image is an art fact that depicts visual perception.
E.g. Photo , 2 D picture usually a physical object or a person thus providing a depiction of it.
4-Animaion-
Animation is a methods in which pictures are manipulated to appear as moving image. It consist of series of drawing photograph and image. In traditional animation image are drawn and pointed by hand on transparent sheets and photographs.
5-Audio-
Audio is usually neglected in multimedia application, the emphasis is mainly focused on visual effects. An audio is a signal that is represent on a sound. We can say that, audio is a sound within the acoustics range available to human. It is also a type of multimedia.
6-Video-
Computer video deals with the recording and display of sequence of image. Each individual image in sequence is called as frame. For a junk-free full motion video 25 to 30 frames have to be displayed per second.
